Hello Members,
On Thursday 23 July, we had a small but enthusiastic group gather at the Buninyong Community House. I would like to thank those members who were able to attend our first General Meeting in some time and also those who offered their apologies.
Formal minutes of this meeting will be distributed in due course, but the Committee felt it important to share meeting outcomes as soon as practicable.
After procedural matters were attended to, the meeting received a financial report outlining that the BDCA remains in a strong financial position largely supported by advertising revenue from the Village Voice.
The Village Voice itself has just published its 12th edition and has become a flagship activity of the BDCA with the magazine enjoying strong community support. It was noted that work needs to be done to promote the Village Voice (and the BDCA) to a younger demographic.
The meeting received further updates on Traffic Safety and progress on becoming an RV Friendly town.
It was noted that there is a vacancy for a BDCA representative on the Mount Buninyong Maintenance Committee and this would need to be filled.
Discussion was held about BDCA Outreach at the May Village Market, which while moderately successful was challenged to engage younger members of our community and young families. It was agreed that the BDCA would approach the Lions to operate another stall at the August Market (along with free sausages) and invite the Village Voice team to feature the magazine more strongly as a potential outreach vehicle.
A new project to coordinate community support to reinvigorate the Buninyong RSL & Memorial Park was proposed. The idea has received strong support from the RSL and good interest from potential funding bodies. It was agreed that the BDCA will prepare a scoping brief for consultation with the City of Ballarat, suppliers and potential funders.
The meeting closed on an optimistic note with the AGM approaching on 22 October at 7pm in the Community House. We hope to see as many members attending as possible!
Kind regards,
Darren Holland
President, BDCA
